NASCAR president Mike Helton held a news conference today at 12:30 pm regarding the Keselowski – Edwards feud that totally exploded at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday.
NASCAR had met with both Keselowski and Edwards as well as both team owners, Roger Penske and Jack Roush. The results of this on-track feud is a 3-race probation period for Edwards. That’s it! Helton said the decision came “after meeting and discussing the events Sunday evening, all day Monday and [Tuesday] morning.” This will include races at Bristol, Martinsville, and Phoenix. Mike Helton had also reminded everyone that they had parked the #99 car during the race.
It appears, though, that NASCAR is more concerned as to why the #12 became airborne on a mile and a half track. They will be looking into why it happened a lot closer.
What about letting the drivers drive? I’ve seen it on Twitter as well as Facebook, race fans saying “yeah, but people wanted to see bumping and banging on the track and when something happens like this, the s*** hits the fan.” Well, Mike Helton commented on that scenario when someone asked “yeah, what about letting the driver’s drive?” Helton replied, “NASCAR is promoting side-by-side racing – HOWEVER – there is a fine line, and if a driver crosses that line, they (NASCAR) will get involved.”
Do you think the sentence handed down should have been more severe than what Edwards received? And by the way, for those of you wondering, there was no mention of any additional penalties for Edwards going down Pit Road the wrong way when #99 car was summoned to “park it” in the garage.

Boys, have at it remains alive and well.
NASCAR placed Carl Edwards on probation for three races after he wrecked Brad Keselowski at Atlanta Motor Speedway in retaliation on Sunday.
The wreck sent Keselowski’s No. 12 Penske Dodge airborne, and while he emerged from the car limping, he was not hurt in the crash. NASCAR parked Edwards for the remainder of the race and that’s about the extent of his punishment. NASCAR plans to hold a meeting with Edwards and Keselowski so they can discuss their differences.
“We expect them to race on the race track at a level that NASCAR fans expect them to and we expect them to,” NASCAR President Mike Helton said. “But if there’s a rivalry that goes beyond the racing they need to figure out how to manage that before we get more involved in it.”
Drivers reacted to the news on Twitter. Denny Hamlin, who himself intentionally crashed Keselowski during a Nationwide race at Homestead, said “i think everyone needs to take a chill pill. was it ok for brad to spin me in front of the field? how dangerous was that to me”
Kasey Kahne also supported the decision.
“Airborne is biggest and only issue. I like Helton’s call,” Kahne said.
Kevin Harvick Tweeted that he was surprised by the lack of penalty and joked that he planned to ask for a refund for all of his penalties.
