Danica Patrick finishes 6th in Daytona debut; Grade her performance

Danica Patrick finished 6th Saturday night in the ARCA Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

What grade do you give Patrick in her stock-car debut? My grade?

I give Danica Patrick a B. She made a great save in the grass, but later got caught out of the draft in the final five laps. It shows that the GoDaddy girl has a little more to learn about winning at Superspeedways.

Regardless, I think she silenced some critics who thought she didn’t have the chops to compete on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway.

  1. I am surprised that you bring up the fact she got out of the draft. I liked the fact that she went for the win. Seeing how she is not looking to go for the ARCA points championship but is looking to experiance and get wins I think she gets an “A”. I think she had several great moves yesterday everyone is pointing to the save in not hitting in the wall but she also made some great moves cutting through traffic to get back to the front. I think when she gets some more experiance it should be interesting and I am interested to see how she progresses through the season. I do think bump drafting is something she will learn but lets remember she is coming from a race league that you can not bump. When you consider everything I think she deserves an A for her first time in race conditions.

I want to see her race in the nationwide this week.

  2. Danica did great. Keep in mind this was a learning experience, she needed to learn what it was like to get out of the draft, to side draft, to bump draft. In the last 5 laps, she took a risk by trying to force momentum up high and for a minute it looked like she could help 51 make a move further up. Bottom line is she saved the car, didn’t back down, and even gave Carmichael a love tap at the end. Considering all the wrecks and all the seasoned pros who finished behind her, hard not to give her an A.

  3. I think she is jsut what the racing curcuit needed! She has added some excitement back into racing.

  4. To all those who said that Danica couldn’t drive … thppppppppptttttt!

That amazing save she made after being bumped into the grass was spectacular. Gpoing from dead last to 6th in about 30 laps wasn’t too bad either. I gave her a B because she still needs to learn how get up on a drivers butt and draft a little better. Skill wise she is far and above most of the other drivers in ARCA.
